PURPOSE

STAR ALLIANCE™ is a public service organization - nonprofit, nonpartisan, nonsectarian and open to all, founded in 1985 to bring folks together everywhere around higher ethics and potentially "universal" peace principles. STAR ALLIANCE acts as an efficient catalyst for comprehensive, lasting change. Our generally low-cost educational materials and programs in ethics education and commitment can contribute efficiently to increased security as well as greater harmony and enjoyment of life everywhere. Our projects include:

The STAR ALLIANCE Declaration of Ideals, available in various formats: Youth Edition, Summary Adult Edition, Outline or "Star Points" Edition, Expanded Edition.

The STAR ALLIANCE Friendship Handshake: summarizes our Highest Common Ideals.

THE VOCABULARY OF PEACE: a wonderful approach to peace education for children and adults, focusing on key words that bring peace to life in daily lives.

STAR ALLIANCE Quality-Of-Life Citizens' Media activities, including THE STAR ALLIANCE SHOW, since 1987.

STAR ALLIANCE Global Goodwill Tours and Travel activities (See www.STARALLIANCE.net) since 1991.

STAR ALLIANCE multicultural concerts and celebrations.

The popular STAR ALLIANCE logo and flag: "The arc of Rainbow Stars, exudes harmony and good cheer! Thanks to the late, great mountaineer Babu Chiri Sherpa and STAR ALLIANCE Nomad Expeditions, our flag has traveled to the summit of Mount Everest on three occasions! It can be flown virtually anywhere as a symbol of people's commitment to our STAR ALLIANCE "Highest Common Ideals."

Over the years the STAR ALLIANCE "Declaration of Ideals" has been endorsed in various evolving editions by an impressive group of well-known individuals. (Please see "Celebrity Signers.")

Since September 11th of course, "more than ever" our positive, catalytic approach is worth more than a fresh look from everybody of open mind and genuine concern for the future. It is worth concrete individual and institutional support!

Among bold proposals our organization wishes to facilitate the addressing of the current global crisis with a marathon series of STAR ALLIANCE GLOBAL ELECTRONIC TOWN MEETINGS. Seed funding is vital to make this activity feasible. Inquiries are welcome from potential donors and participants including broadcasters and other media professionals, as well as, those with compatible messages to share.

STAR ALLIANCE believes that over-identification with cultural, political and religious differences can create a dangerous gulf between identity groups during times of rapid integration, crisis and stress such as we are seeing globally today. STAR ALLIANCE helps provide a positive, supernational, surpercultural value and identity system compatible with and supportive of democratic trends, where potentially "Everyone Can Be A Star." Individuals and institutions representing a broad spectrum of healthy differences, harmonized by our "Highest Common Ideals," can each contribute to and benefit from a vibrant, creative whole: "The Happy Integration of Diversity."

Another crucial issue we address: the separation of church and state, so necessary for effective democracy, has created an ironic void in many institutions of public education. Perhaps from fear of violating this wise democractic rule, too little discussion of ethics, values and practical techniques for realizing these has taken place. This has resulted in a corrersponding lack of positive character-development among youth and increased problems in society -- school violence and high teen suicide rates being just two extreme examples.

Some faith-based educational institutions may not give their students an adequate appreciation of other major religions and cultures and the universal peace values found at the heart of each of them as well as their own. Unfortunately this can result in undue fear, cultural isolation and in some cases, outright intolerance and outbreaks of irrational violence.

The STAR ALLIANCE approach does not involve religion per se, although we support the study of comparative religion as a "must" for well-rounded citizen education. In our programs we avoid aspects of defined religions (1) as normally practiced and focus on values or ethics in an intellectual context with applications to everyday life.

The promising results observed to date are remarkably improved student and public attitudes, behaviors and appreciation of peaceful conflict resolution, mutual understanding, respect and good will.

These STAR ALLIANCE qualities become more a part of students' and adults' basic outlook on life. Our hope is that through catalytic STAR ALLIANCE programs and affiliated, cooperative educational promotions, all people will have a better chance to embrace peaceful coexistence as a way of life.

We can each feel increased hope and strength in alliance with all others making a sincere attempt to be good individuals --to radiate "good" in community, in accordance with our great common ideals.

Please support STAR ALLIANCE in this "all-important" work! September 11th has been a stunning wake-up call. It should focus our attention on the vital need for people to harmonize everywhere in a peaceful way. With your help, STAR ALLIANCE can help people everywhere to get committed, stay committed and act together to support a better, more nonviolent future in their own lives and the life of the community.

But only by acting together can we ensure a safe and sustainable social and physical environment for our generation and all those to come. Widespread, popular peace education is essential for the health, safety and sustainability of our common world.
